I have been trying to leave my car at home and take the bus into work as often as possible. I walk the last mile from downtown to SoWa. It sounds nearly virtuous, but this is perhaps the only exercise I get. Were it not for this little walk, and various other incidental physical movements, I would be on a fast-track trajectory to becoming a blob with feet.
Taking public transportation, instead of a perfectly serviceable and non-smelly car, also gives me my daily dose of self righteousness that lasts all day. I sacrifice for the greater good before I even get to work. And I WALK. With my FEET. I therefore, I get to be completely insufferable. And I should be able to eat as many cookies as I want.
I take the bus over the Hawthorne bridge. I noticed earlier this week that a sign that had recently been a Pabst Blue Ribbon billboard (Portlanders love their PBR) had been painted with crude letters: “FORGIVE.” Huh.
I think it’s a nice enough sentiment. I didn’t know if it was religious or hippie dippy. I didn’t over-analyze it. It’s good advice either way.
Later, I realized that the sign was probably in reference to this. What a hoopla.
